Lack of Affordable Housing in Halifax

Many residents in District 10 tell me they are concerned about the lack of affordable housing in Halifax. Yesterday I attended the Fight for $15 and Fairness BBQ and information session at Titus Park in Fairview. This advocacy group says rents are rising so fast that people working full-time at minimum wage can’t afford a place to live.


Other cities and provinces are further ahead on affordable housing. It’s a complex problem and with the 1% vacancy rate it requires immediate attention. A good place to start would be a coordinated strategy–and I support many of these approaches recommended by a local expert:
